Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have educational qualifications such as a Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates don’t need experience, training will be provided

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a satisfactory enhanced security screening Level IV
  • The candidates should undergo a satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, Adult Abuse Registry Check, and a Child Abuse Registry Check, which are mandatory and must be obtained prior to the commencement of Sheriff’s Officer Training
  • The candidates should have the ability to travel within Manitoba (including small planes)
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to work extended and flexible hours, including short notice call-ins
  • The candidates should be capable of working under minimal supervision

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should provide a satisfactory medical fitness report prior to the commencement of Sheriff’s Officer Training
  • The candidates should hold a Manitoba Full Class 4 Driver’s Licence (4F)
  • The candidates should provide a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract
  • The candidates should possess First Aid and CPR (level C) certificates
  • The candidates should possess effective interpersonal skills, including a positive attitude, as well as the ability to maintain a respectful environment
  • The candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to teamwork and have excellent verbal communication skills
  • The candidates should have experience in handling stress and the unexpected effectively and responsibly
  • The candidates should possess strong problem-solving, decision-making, and sound judgment skills
  • The candidates should exhibit strong written communication skills and demonstrate excellent organizational skills
  • The candidates should have the ability to interact with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to escort, guard, and transport persons in custody while maintaining control and ensuring safety and security
  • The candidates should be able to maintain order, security, and decorum in all courtrooms as required, adhering to established protocols and procedures
  • The candidates should be able to assist in the enforcement of Writs and court orders, including seizures and evictions, while following legal guidelines and directives
  • The candidates should be able to deliver various court documents promptly and accurately, ensuring proper documentation and record-keeping
  • The candidates should be able to apprehend persons under bench warrants, exercising sound judgment and adherence to relevant laws and regulations
  • The candidates should be able to communicate effectively with court personnel, law enforcement officials, and other relevant parties to coordinate activities and ensure smooth operations
