Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have a valid Marine Medical Certificate
Experience: Candidates should have experience in a Canadian marine environment in bridge look-out duties and steering duties

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to work in a team, solve problems independently, manage time and tasks effectively

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have knowledge of bridge look-out duties and steering duties, including the use of deck machinery and equipment in a Canadian marine environment
  • The candidates should have computer skills, client-service oriented and commitment to safety and food safety and handling practices
  • The candidates should provide a Certificate of Conduct and the Vulnerable Sector Query satisfactory to the Employer
  • The candidates should participate in any safety course training as offered and required by the Department
  • The candidates should possess a valid Food Safety, Handling Certificate and Marine Basic First Aid Certificate
  • The candidates should have a Bridge Watch Certificate from Transport Canada to SCTW 95 or equivalent as determined by the Canada Shipping Act 2001 and applicable vessel Safe Manning Document

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform custodial and daily maintenance duties to ensure that all areas of the vessel galley, crew quarters, passenger areas, washrooms are clean while at sea and in port
  • The candidates should be able to perform general vessel maintenance, including scraping and painting the vessel as directed
  • The candidates should be able to perform general seaman duties, including assisting with docking and mooring lines during vessel arrivals and departures
  • The candidates should be able to assist the Marine Cook with the preparation, cooking, and serving of meals for vessel crew members, including the clean-up of tables and dishwashing
  • The candidates should be able to use a computer in the function of their duties and perform other related duties
