Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should be currently enrolled in a university or college program
Experience: Candidates should have knowledge and experience in delivering public programs, educational programs, demonstrations, and special events to varied audiences (ages, interests)

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to lift and carry supplies weighing up to 25 lbs
  • The candidates should be able to perform related duties as assigned
  • The candidates should have the ability to travel within Waterloo Region

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability and willingness to learn local history and early historic crafts skills
  • The candidates should possess communication and presentation skills to interact with the public, deliver programs and demonstrations, and participate as effective team members
  • The candidates should have the ability to read resources, training/education manuals, and other reference material
  • The candidates should have the ability to support and demonstrate the Region’s values

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to facilitate visitors’ experience and enjoyment by interpreting the Region of Waterloo Museums exhibits and artifacts and answering visitors’ inquiries, at museum/sites including Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum and Doon Heritage Village
  • The candidates should be able to assist in the preparation of materials for programs
  • The candidates should be able to wear historical costume and/or uniform
  • The candidates should be able to present/deliver a variety of programs and related activities to the public, including school children, summer camps, special interest groups, seniors, and pre-school aged children
  • The candidates should be able to lead demonstrations, activities, crafts, and curriculum-related education programs to museum audiences, including historical craft, trade, agriculture, and domestic activities associated with museum exhibits
  • The candidates should be able to provide basic housekeeping, gardening, security, and conservation duties, such as dusting furniture, cleaning artifacts, planting, weeding, and harvesting
  • The candidates should be able to perform work in a museum gallery or historic site, including outdoors, and take steps to mitigate risks associated with the site/assignment, including working in/around weather, temperature variations in historic buildings, heat/smoke when working around a stove/open hearth, and noise if working in the blacksmith shop
