Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English, French or Bilingual Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualification such as Post-secondary Student – completion of first year college or university
Experience: Candidates need an experience of 8 months to 1 year, a related experience of including 300 hours of working as a Camp Counsellor/Leader or Senior Camp Counsellor is required

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidate should be physically fit and able to participate in recreation activities
  • The candidate should be capable of safe lifting techniques and also be in a proper attire and footwear

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have certificates such as Current Standard First Aid, CPR and/or AED certificates, AODA Accessibility/IASR Training, Principles of Healthy Child Development training course – High Five, Quest 2 Tool training course – High Five is desirable and Certification in relevant coaching/aquatics/recreation programs is an asset
  • The candidate should be able to understand the development and recreational needs of children and also have AODA (Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act) Legislated training required by 2010
  • The candidate should have City of Ottawa Core Training and have the knowledge of Applicable City of Ottawa Parks & Recreation policies and procedures.
  • The candidate having City of Ottawa cash handling procedures may be required.
  • The candidate must possess the training, experience and knowledge to organize the work and its performance and also must be familiar with all applicable health and safety legislation, have knowledge of any potential or actual danger to health or safety in the workplace, and have knowledge of appropriate actions to be taken in order to ensure the health and safety of staff in accordance with applicable legislation and City policies and procedures
  • The candidate should have programming skills in crafts, sports, games, creative play, stories and music and also have experience working with preschoolers and/or school age children and/or youth.
  • The candidate should have experience in planning and operating recreation programs for preschoolers, children and/or youth, be able to demonstrate supervisory and strong leadership skills and also have experience and demonstrated ability to train, supervise and evaluate staff.
  • The candidate should have conflict resolution and problem solving skills, with the ability to manage simultaneous demands, have the ability to work in a team setting or independently and also be able to maintain a fun and safe environment
  • The candidate should have an excellent interpersonal communication, leadership and programming skills, have good organization skills and also have sound judgment in difficult situations
  • The candidate must be able to relate to children and be a good role model, must be tactful, kind and patient and also must be calm under pressure
  • The candidate must be creative and resourceful, must be reliable and trustworthy and also must be flexible and enthusiastic
  • The candidate must have good written and verbal communication skills, and must be able to work well in a team environment and also enjoy working with the public.
  • The candidate should be able to demonstrate teamwork and leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams.
  • The candidate should be able to provide a police record check

Responsibilities:

  • The candidate should be responsible for building a healthy, inclusive and vibrant City, as well as ensuring that communities, residents and visitors have access to the recreation and cultural places, programs, events and services that allow them to experience all the benefits the City has to offer, and overseeing Buildings and Facilities Management for improved service delivery integration, ensuring the best possible client experience in City facilities and also be responsible for the responsible for the coordination of recreation, arts, aquatics or sports programs for preschoolers, children and youth during the summer months.
  • The candidate should be able to provide daily supervision of staff, volunteers and Leaders in Training, and ensure participants have a safe and enjoyable camp experience. The programs may take place indoors, outdoors, in one location or a variety of locations.
  • The candidate should be able to follow verbal and/or written directions/procedures and also be able to accompany and supervise participants in a variety of environments including aquatic.
