Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English and French Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a four year degree in Engineering or Computing Science
Experience: Candidates should have seven years of work experience in supporting hardware, software and communications with a supervisory background

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess thorough knowledge of hardware platforms, operating systems, and software packages
  • The candidates should demonstrate excellent consulting and communication skills
  • The candidates should have supervisory capability and maturity
  • The candidates should possess technical skills including operating systems support, file systems configuration, and storage connectivity methods
  • The candidates should have an understanding of power and cooling concepts in an Enterprise Data Centre
  • The candidates should demonstrate integrity in handling computer access privileges
  • The candidates should be able to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals or technical procedures
  • The candidates should possess strong written and oral communication skills for reports, procedure manuals, and presentations
  • The candidates should have experience tailored to academic environments and co-op placement recruitment, which would be advantageous

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to supervise the operations of the university’s central computer, storage, backup, and data center systems under the direction of the Director, Operations & Infrastructure
  • The candidates should be able to manage, support, and maintain a variety of diverse computer systems that provide services to academic and administrative departments
  • The candidates should be able to perform initial configuration and installation of specific computer equipment, conduct routine checks of the equipment, take corrective action, and perform general maintenance
  • The candidates should be able to coordinate the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the ITS Data Centres
  • The candidates should be able to be technically capable of configuring a wide variety of computer and communications equipment, as well as diagnosing any problems that arise and resolving them internally or by referring them to the appropriate contractor for resolution
  • The candidates should be able to have judgment and skill in resolving problems that may have a global influence on the services of ITS
  • The candidates should be able to be involved in the planning and budget process, making purchasing recommendations where necessary
  • The candidates should be able to be willing to work outside regular business hours and be on call as required, as responsibilities extend beyond a normal workday throughout the year
