Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a high school diploma
Experience: Candidates should have GED equivalent work experience

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidate should be at least 18 years of age, be available to work all types of shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, in all weather conditions
  • The candidate should be proficient in communication, with the ability to provide clear and concise instructions and directions
  • The candidate should emphasize safety, as this is a high-risk environment working around heavy moving equipment

Other Requirements:

  • The candidate should have possess a valid driver’s license; a Class 3 license, acquire certifications in CPKC’s safety rules

Responsibilities:

  • The candidate should be able to perform physical labour that varies from moderate to heavy on an assigned area of track, pull track spikes and apply rail anchors
  • The candidate should be able to shovel crushed rock, bend and lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis, perform repetitive tasks
  • The candidate should be able to emphasize safety at all times due to operating in a safety-risk environment around heavy moving equipment, remain focused and willing to work in a team environment
  • The candidate should be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including rain, direct sunlight, and snow
  • The candidate should be able to work shifts, with start times set on a weekly basis and subject to daily changes, commit to 90–100% travel requirements, with lodging and meal allowance provided
  • The candidate should be able to adapt to seasonal work conditions and may be laid off at the end of the work season, returning as needed (in seniority order) for the next work season
