Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be able to work shifts, extensive hours, sometimes away from home, and occasional overtime, work outside the headquarters location
- The candidates should be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions with regular exposure to dust, pollen, noise, and vibrations, use various common and specialized hand tools
- The candidates should be able to perform tasks as a frog and switch welder, utilize a respirator for certain tasks, perform repetitive physical activities
- The candidates should be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds (22 kg) and occasionally up to 70 pounds (32 kg)
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have demonstrate good eye-hand coordination and grasping, provide federal and provincial welding qualifications or equivalent experience
- The candidates should have provide proof of or equivalent General Education Diploma (GED), present a valid Driver’s License, Class 3 in Quebec or equivalent in other provinces
- The candidates should be collaborate effectively with others and share information, set direction and inspire others and demonstrate active listening
- The candidates should have provide experience in similar working conditions, demonstrate knowledge of signals or Rail Operating Rules
- The candidates should be able to provide operator qualifications and experience, demonstrate experience and training in mechanical systems, present post-secondary trade education credentials
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to use stick electrodes and Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), utilize high frequency tools, weld and grind carbon steel and manganese track components
- The candidates should be able to inspect track work upon completion and approve the track, maintain train operating restrictions in alignment with established track standards, remove and replace defective ties, rail spikes, and anchors
- The candidates should be able to correct deviations in track surface, alignment, and gauge, install and repair both street and railroad crossings, assist in replacing and repairing components such as power-operated switches and insulated joints
- The candidates should be able to unload and assist in unloading ballast materials, unload and distribute track material efficiently
- The candidates should be able to sort used track materials for loading, including materials that may require hand-loading
- The candidates should be able to clear brush, vegetation, snow, and litter from the railroad right-of-way, establish and maintain proper drainage around track areas
- The candidates should be able to clean up work areas following the completion of tasks, comply with track safety standards, operating rules, and safe work procedures at all times, complete reports related to work performed, material inventory, and inspections
