Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have graduation from High School
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of three years of carpentry experience

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidate should constantly lift, carry, or move objects up to 11 lbs, regularly lift, carry, or move objects between 11 – 44 lbs, and occasionally lift, carry, or move objects over 44 lbs
  • The candidate should possess physical balance, as well as the ability to stand, walk, climb, and work in awkward or cramped positions requiring strength and endurance on a regular basis
  • The candidate should have both gross and fine motor skills, using tools that require accurate control and steadiness on a regular basis and accurate control and steadiness for using tools on a regular basis
  • The candidate should have work be impacted by time pressures or deadlines, interruptions, and lack of control over work pace as priorities change and services are interrupted

Other Requirements:

  • The candidate should have successfully completed a Journeyperson’s Certificate in Carpentry and satisfactory record of work performance
  • The candidate should have knowledge of Occupational Hazards, WHMIS Regulations, and safety precautions
  • The candidate should possess a valid Newfoundland and Labrador Class 5 Driver’s License and have the use of a private vehicle as conditions of employment

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to participate in the maintenance, repair, and renovation of wooden structures such as cabinets, desks, displays and workstations using woodworking machinery and hand tools
  • The candidates should be able to perform preventative maintenance on various equipment and machines and estimate costs and order materials and supplies
  • The candidates should be able to liaise and communicate with contractors and perform other related duties
