Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language

Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field
Physical Requirements:
- The candidate should be comfortable working with, on, and around heavy equipment that is in motion
- The candidate should be able to pass the required examinations and be able to read and understand safety instructions, books of rules, instructions and regulations, timetables, bulletins, waybills, placards, and other written or printed material
- The candidate should be at least 18 years old, be available for call 24 hours per day and able to respond to the designated work site within two hours of receiving the call
- The candidate should be able to work irregular schedules determined by the rotation of the extra board, including weekends and holidays
- The candidate should be able to perform work for up to 12 hours per shift, including travel away from home for 24–48 hours at a time, work outdoors in all types of weather conditions
- The candidate should be able to walk long distances on railroad roadbeds, the ability to lift up to 100 lbs on occasion
Other Requirements:
- The candidate should have or general equivalency diploma (GED) and possess a valid driver’s license
- The candidate should hold a valid Canadian passport allowing entry/re-entry to the United States
- The candidate should be able to recognize and distinguish between the colors of signals, signs, and other visual displays.
- The candidate should possess good communication skills and work efficiently with minimum supervision
Responsibilities:
- The candidate should be able to work in train or yard service depending on seniority, strictly follow and execute work according to operating rules and safety procedures
- The candidate should be able to carry out specific instructions detailing a train’s route and specific movements, coordinate the switching of cars, including coupling, uncoupling, and lifting out the coupling device
- The candidate should be able to observe, interpret, and relay signals and other indications affecting the movement of the train
- The candidate should be able to signal crew members for movement of the engine or train using specific signals, or communicate via radio to indicate when to start, stop, back up, set, or release air brakes
- The candidate should be able to have a thorough understanding of and follow the General Code of Operating Rules (GCOR), General Orders, and Bulletins as they pertain to the safe movement of trains, goods, and hazardous materials, ensuring the safety of employees and the general public
- The candidate should be able to provide flag protection and relay signals to trains in emergency situations as stipulated in the operating rules
- The candidate should be able to move on and off moving or stationary equipment while the train is performing industrial, station, or yard switching
- The candidate should be able to ride a moving car by hanging onto grab irons or a ladder, sometimes for extended periods of time
- The candidate should be able to fill out required forms, including train orders and switch lists, and prepare clear and legible reports, maintain first aid qualifications and apply first aid in emergency situations
- The candidate should be able to monitor the yard operations area, stay alert to changing conditions, and take safe, responsible action to prevent personal injury and equipment damage
