Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or approved equivalent
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to use construction equipment, tools, materials, and techniques
  • The candidates should possess the ability to operate a computer and be capable of preparing and completing forms, schedules, checklists, reports, and maintaining accurate records
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to maintain vehicles and equipment in a clean, tidy, and safe condition and have the ability to work overtime and call-ins as required
  • The candidates must be able to report to various work sites and must be physically capable of performing required duties in all weather conditions and in an outdoor work environment
  • The candidates should be able to work shifts/weekends and stand-by

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario Class “D” license with “Z” endorsement and qualify for the City’s drivers’ permit
  • The candidates should have knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the regulations that apply to the above work
  • The candidates should be able to work in and possess the ability to obtain the necessary knowledge of confined space entry regulations, trenching, shoring, and construction and City policies and procedures
  • The candidates should have the ability to communicate courteously with the public
  • The candidates should be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • The candidates should have the ability to read field and utility drawings

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to assist with the operation, maintenance, repairs, inspection, and installation of all water and wastewater systems and appurtenances, including water distribution and sewer collection systems
  • The candidates should be able to utilize a variety of hand and power tools and equipment/vehicles associated with wastewater collection and water distribution operations and maintenance
  • The candidates should be able to perform work in a safe and efficient manner
  • The candidates should be able to maintain accurate records utilizing field sheets and/or electronic devices
