Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Grade 12 or equivalent
Experience: Candidates should have Three years’ related water system operation and/or maintenance experience
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should provide a current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record
- The candidates should provide an acceptable current Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS)
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have one year’s experience in the operation of the machinery and power tools used in Water & Sewer construction
- The candidates should possess a Level 2 Water Distribution Operator Certification from the Saskatchewan Operator Certification Board
- The candidates should have Possession of a Level 3 Water Distribution Operator Certification from the Saskatchewan Operator Certification Board would be considered an asset
- The candidates should possess a valid Fireman’s Certificate
- The candidates should possess a valid Saskatchewan Class 3A Licence
- The candidates must comply with all safety-related requirements
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to operate, inspect, and maintain the water distribution system and appurtenances to ensure the delivery of safe water and reliable system operation, recognizing this position as safety-sensitive
- The candidates should be able to operate and troubleshoot all water system components to de-energize, re-energize, inspect, and maintain the water distribution system and inspect, thaw, clean, and perform minor maintenance of valves, hydrants, service connections, and appurtenances
- The candidates should be able to perform field sampling and testing of basic water quality parameters and respond to customer service inquiries regarding water pressure, quality, and quantity and install, remove, and maintain various temporary water services and monitor and maintain system instrumentation for water loss management, including flow meters and pressure monitors, using leak listening equipment as required
- The candidates should be able to perform hydraulic evaluation of the system, including fire flow and c-value testing, and monitor cathodic protection system continuity, performing minor repairs as needed
- The candidates should be able to conduct pipe cleaning programs, including conventional flushing, unidirectional flushing, and swabbing, to maintain water quality, as well as respond to and resolve water contamination events, including water main chlorination and de-chlorination procedures
- The candidates should be able to maintain comprehensive records of all field activities and prepare required reports, including inspection and test results and recommendations for repair and provide direction and support to staff assigned to assist in the operation, inspection, and maintenance of the water distribution system
- The candidates should be able to operate and drive mobile steam boilers in all segments of the City’s operations and perform pre-scheduled inspections and maintenance of stationary steam boilers while maintaining comprehensive records of all field activities and preparing required reports, including inspections, test results, and recommendations
