Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English and French Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as a Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates should have three (3) years of experience working with DDC controls

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidate should be able to perform routine inspections and maintenance of water treatment equipment, which may involve standing, bending, and reaching
  • The candidate should be capable of lifting and carrying equipment and supplies related to water treatment
  • The candidate should be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions, as water treatment facilities may be located in different environments
  • The candidate should be able to respond to emergency situations promptly, which may require physical agility and readiness
  • The candidate should be able to operate and troubleshoot water treatment systems, which may involve manual dexterity and technical skills

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have knowledge of Northern Building practices and a strong understanding of water & sewer systems buried in a permafrost environment, which are essential
  • The candidates should possess a working knowledge of all building components, including mechanical systems, electrical plumbing, piping, and oil burner heating systems
  • The candidates should have knowledge of proper water distribution system disinfection practices, flow testing, and maintenance of system components
  • The candidates should have a working knowledge of computer software, including Microsoft Office, and the ability to work in a cross-cultural environment
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to investigate and troubleshoot utilidor issues
  • The candidates should possess the ability to plan, lay out the installation, modification, and repair of various new and existing piping systems and equipment for the heat distribution systems
  • The candidates should hold a Water Treatment Certification Level 1
  • The candidates should possess a valid class 5 driver’s license, WHMIS, and Confined Space Entry Safety procedures

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide safe drinking water and water/sewer piped service for the community of Rankin Inlet
  • The candidates should be able to manage a supply and return system back to the pump house, and ensure water is tempered to keep it from freezing
  • The candidates should be able to add Chlorine Gas to the water and must test it daily to ensure the levels are kept within a safe range and the water is safe to drink
  • The candidates should be able to repair any major water breaks in the town system immediately to prevent water loss from the town storage tank and possible damage to surrounding buildings
  • The candidates should be able to monitor the system, complete repairs in a timely basis, or provide proper water treatment to avoid causing a serious health risk or disruption of services to the community of Rankin Inlet
