Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the French and English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of diploma in Recreation or Recreation Therapy
Experience: Candidates should have at least one year of experience working as a Recreation Therapist
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should have the ability to run groups and possess strong interpersonal and communication skills
- The candidates should be able to deal effectively with a culturally diverse and complex clientele
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have a postgraduate certificate in Recreation, along with good working knowledge of therapeutic recreation principles and practices
- The candidates should be eligible for registration with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario and be reliable, cooperative, and client-focused, as well as a motivated team player who shows initiative
- The candidates should have experience working with individuals with mental illness and knowledge of the Ontario Review Board process
- The candidates should have a First Aid, CPR, and Management of Aggressive Behaviour training is desirable and Bilingualism (French and English) and proficiency in a second language
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to work with the interprofessional team to promote a holistic leisure lifestyle, addressing the social, physical, spiritual, emotional, and cognitive needs of clients
- The candidates should be able to develop, plan, facilitate, schedule, organize, and implement various therapeutic recreation programs
- The candidates should be able to conduct assessments and develop individual recreation plans tailored to clients’
- The candidates should be able to complete patient documentation, provide skill instruction, and develop program goals and objectives
- The candidates should be able to evaluate a variety of individual and group recreation programs and contribute to program development, research, and educational activities within the program
- The candidates should be able to provide supervision to students as part of the program and maintain flexibility in scheduling, including evening and weekend work
- The candidates should be able to work in a diverse and team-oriented environment, complying with all regulatory and legislative requirements
