Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Post secondary degree in social sciences (preferably BSW)
Experience: Candidates should have Case management experience (including intakes, assessments, service coordination, counselling, and monitoring) in a social service setting

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should provide a current satisfactory Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search
  • The candidates should provide a current and satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check, Adult Abuse Registry Check and Prior Contact Check

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5F Driver’s license and access to a vehicle with the ability to travel on government business within the Province of Manitoba
  • The candidates should be aware that combinations of education and experience may be considered at an underfill or commensurate classification and salary level. Applicants who have been educated outside of Canada must have education which is comparable to the minimum qualification in Canada. Applicants submitting foreign credentials require an official academic assessment report issued by a recognized Canadian assessment service
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to identify signs of child abuse and neglect and possess effective interpersonal skills for developing positive working relationships with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders
  • The candidates should have strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize complex tasks/assignments in a high-volume work environment with competing demands
  • The candidates should demonstrate excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills and have effective written communication skills for writing clear and concise correspondence to a variety of audiences, including detailed reports
  • The candidates should possess strong verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate or deliver difficult messages or information to clients
  • The candidates should have the ability to work independently and be proficient with MS Office applications (Word and Outlook)
  • The candidates should have course practicum experience in a social service setting and/or knowledge of case management and have experience working in a child and family services agency or social services agency
  • The candidates should have knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act
  • The candidates should demonstrate knowledge and understanding of child development

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to report to the Unit Supervisor and be responsible for the full range of statutory child welfare services to families and children as a Child and Family Services Worker (case manager)
  • The candidates should be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals and families, and service providers often under difficult circumstances
  • The candidates should be able to perform a range of duties including intake, conducting abuse investigations, developing case plans to ensure child safety, coordinating support services, working with collateral community agencies, and assisting with after-hour services to children and families at the full working level (SP4)
  • The candidates should be able to play a key role in the management of protection, voluntary family service, and child in care cases
