Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of the 10th school grade or equivalent combination of training and experience
Experience: Candidates should have minimum 1 year experience in custodial work

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to perform duties according to a work schedule and under minimum direction
  • The candidates should possess physical strength and the ability to perform light and heavy custodial duties
  • The candidates should be committed to safety, using occupational health and safety and environmental standards and procedures
  • The candidates should be fit for a respirator, and compliance with the City of Edmonton’s Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment, including medical monitoring

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have completion or enrollment in the Building Service Worker Program from a recognized post-secondary institution, which would be considered an asset
  • The candidates should be able to understand, communicate, read, and write English at a level needed to meet job-related tasks and safety requirements
  • The candidates should have knowledge of and experience with approved cleaning techniques and procedures
  • The candidates should demonstrate skill in the use of cleaning machines and equipment
  • The candidates should have the ability to work with people of all levels within the organization in a professional manner and demonstrate trust and responsibility in the performance of duties
  • The candidates should have a valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) and Obtain and maintain a City Driver’s permit
  • The candidates should demonstrate alignment with the Cultural Commitments of Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated, and Excellent, fostering an environment for others to do the same

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to dust and polish desks and furniture, as well as empty and clean waste paper baskets in offices
  • The candidates should be able to clean and disinfect vertical and horizontal surfaces, perform light mopping and vacuuming
  • The candidates should be able to complete cleaning, disinfecting, and servicing of washroom, kitchen areas, and locker room facilities daily
  • The candidates should be able to use heavy cleaning equipment and supplies for washing, sweeping, stripping, waxing, and polishing floors, as well as steam cleaning carpets
  • The candidates should be able to move audio-visual equipment, platforms, tables, chairs, and office furniture for cleaning purposes or event setup and take-down
  • The candidates should be able to report when minor repairs are required and keep records of attendance, operations, and repairs, including both written and data entry
  • The candidates should be able to secure and lock gates and doors of buildings and City property, follow established cleaning procedures, and perform other related duties as required
