Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English and French Language
Education:Â Candidates should have completion of Current National Lifeguard Pool certificate
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should excel in working well in a team environment and meet the minimum age requirement of 15 years
- The candidates should demonstrate the ability to handle the stress of an emergency situation
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should possess a current Lifesaving Instructor certificate and hold current Standard First Aid, CPR, and AED certificates
- The candidates should have a current Oxygen Therapy or LSS Airway Management certificate and complete AODA Accessibility or IASR Training
- The candidates should be familiar with City of Ottawa and Recreation, Cultural and Facility Services departmental policies, guidelines, and directives
- The candidates should have knowledge of City of Ottawa emergency response procedures
- The candidates should understand applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers
- The candidates should possess excellent public relations skills, reliable and exhibit strong interpersonal skills
- The candidates should meet various language requirements, including English only, French only, or bilingual competencies, depending on the location
- The candidates should be able to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa’s satisfaction. Candidates under the age of 18 require a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters check in place of the Vulnerable Sector Check. Police record checks completed by a third-party company
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to perform surveillance to prevent accidents by administering policies, procedures, rules, and regulations governing the conduct of patrons using the pool
- The candidates should be able to perform rescues and administer first aid necessary for the preservation of life in a team setting
