Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language

Experience: Candidates should have 3 years of Journeyperson status as a Construction & Maintenance Electrician (309A) or Industrial Electrician (442A)

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a comprehensive working knowledge of the repair, maintenance, and operation of current technology for water treatment plants, including process control and electrical distribution systems
  • The candidates should be proficient in electrical control, UV disinfection systems, variable speed, soft start, low voltage, and across-the-line motor starters and control circuits, as well as electrical motor controls
  • The candidates should be capable of reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, bulletins, instrumentation and control drawings, and operation, maintenance, and repair manuals
  • The candidates should have experience in using precision measuring tools and dismantling, measuring, and repairing electrical equipment
  • The candidates should possess Grade 12 plus Journeyperson status as a Construction & Maintenance Electrician (309A) or Industrial Electrician (442A) plus 5 years of experience with Journeyperson status, including working on high voltage systems and switchgear, high horsepower electric motors, diesel generators and related components, motor control systems, and electrical control systems
  • The candidates must possess a current MOE Class II Water Distribution Certificate and Class II Water Treatment Certificate (or attain within 4 years of hire) and attend 50 hours of annual training as stipulated by MOE while maintaining current training and licenses
  • The candidates should hold a valid Class G driver’s license (or G2 with 3 years of driving experience) and maintain a satisfactory driving record to operate a Regional vehicle
  • The candidates should have knowledge of troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing high voltage substations, transformers, and switchgear equipment (4.16kV-27.6kV) acquired through classroom and on-the-job training and experience
  • The candidates should possess knowledge of diesel generators, auto/manual transfer switches, control systems, and related equipment
  • The candidates should demonstrate knowledge of emergency first aid, chemical systems, confined spaces, WHMIS, Occupational Health & Safety Act, arc flash standards, corporate safety policies and procedures, electrical safety regulations, Safe Drinking Water Act, and related regulations
  • The candidates should have analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills to assist in resolving complex electrical issues related to automated control systems
  • The candidates should possess organizational skills to properly sequence procedures for system shutdowns and startups, notify staff, order materials, perform safety measures, and monitor completed work for regulatory compliance
  • The candidates should be able to create and implement computerized maintenance programs for remote sites, use electrical test equipment, diagnose and replace faulty electrical equipment
  • The candidates should have computer skills with basic knowledge of Microsoft Office, a computerized work order system, and the Internet, as well as a working knowledge of AutoCad to create, provide, and edit electrical drawings
  • The candidates should be able to participate as effective team members and support the Region’s values

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to act as a Certified Operator in accordance with requirements defined in O Reg. 128/04 to perform operational, maintenance, and emergency work on water treatment and water distribution systems
  • The candidates should be able to operate, repair, modify, retrofit, and install electrical equipment, standby power, UV equipment, and chlorine and ozone equipment and systems
  • The candidates should be able to operate, perform predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance, and install new and modified equipment in both low and high voltage applications up to 27.6 KV, including well pumps, booster pumps, chemical systems, UV equipment, ozone equipment, filter systems, valves, lighting, heating, distribution centers, transformers, motors, magnetic starters, air circuit breakers, capacitors, ballasts, UV lamps, cables, and bus work
  • The candidates should be able to design electrical systems, considering components such as amperage, conduit, and controls, ensuring compliance with Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) standards
  • The candidates should be able to maintain logs and work orders on operations, maintenance failures, and servicing, completing work order forms and inventory control cards, producing test results and activity reports, and maintaining up-to-date documentation of maintenance activities and records, manuals, wiring schematics, and work records for the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
  • The candidates should be able to provide recommendations for preventive maintenance programs, including operating, maintenance, and safety procedures, equipment testing, inspection frequency, and set point/control point
  • The candidates should be able to inspect, monitor, adjust, and start/stop water treatment/distribution equipment, disinfection systems, chemical systems, electrical equipment, and control indicator equipment, as well as install well pump motors, chemical pumps, and UV equipment, and document required maintenance upgrades to ensure equipment meets all regulatory health and safety and ESA requirements
  • The candidates should be able to inspect, maintain, and operate diesel generators, diesel fire pumps, and portable generators
  • The candidates should be able to perform on-call response to emergency situations on all water treatment and distribution equipment and disinfection systems, performing emergency repairs on electrical systems including high voltages up to 27,600 volts for water treatment and distribution systems
  • The candidates should be able to install conduit and wiring for control circuits and assist in installing instrumentation and control equipment, providing electrical isolation for operational and maintenance staff, and participating in the electrical trade lock program
  • The candidates should be able to notify appropriate staff of the need for major repairs to non-electrical equipment and assist as required, determining the cause of failures and taking action to correct, including performing repairs or notifying the utility company for problems outside the Region’s scope of responsibility
  • The candidates should be able to troubleshoot and maintain UV systems, install, set up, maintain, repair, test, and troubleshoot variable frequency drives, soft starts, and automatic and manual transfer systems/switches, and locate electrical lines and uncover underground equipment requiring repair or testing
  • The candidates should be able to maintain online documentation for electrical installations and changes as per ESA and maintain an electrical library, including manuals, drawings, and schematics
  • The candidates should be able to perform other related duties as assigned
