Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a Grade 12 education
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to work under supervision and independently and lift a minimum of 40 lbs, (18 kg)
  • The candidates should be able to work in an actively paced area and adapt to frequent interruptions in activity
  • The candidates should be able to attend training following a successful interview, which includes an intensive 3-week schedule with classroom training, a midterm (1 week), and Buddy Shifts (2 weeks) scheduled by the Unit Manager

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification
  • The candidates should have demonstrated good communication skills  a high degree of motivation and organizational skills
  • The candidates should be able to complete or pass Service Worker Hemodialysis Training as part of the AKC-N program, with training held in Edmonton or Red Deer depending on availability
  • The candidates should achieve a passing mark of 75% on the Hemodialysis Training to move on to Buddy Shifts and demonstrate satisfactory performance during Buddy Shifts to be considered a pass
  • The candidates should have previous training and experience transporting patients in a healthcare institution and supply chain management experience

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to transport patients (clients or residents) and equipment to and from different patient care areas within a hospital site
  • The candidates should be able to distribute and replenish hospital supplies throughout the units and clean equipment and patient care areas as directed
  • The candidates should be able to transport lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts
  • The candidates should be able to report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties
