Salary: $37,500 to $50,000 annually (To be negotiated) for 37.5 hours per week
Employment Type: Permanent employment Full time
Location: Mississauga, ON
Work setting: Urban area, legal firm, relocation costs not covered by employer

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years
Experience: Candidates don’t need experience although having experience is an asset
Computer and technology knowledge: MS Office, MS Outlook, MS Excel, and MS Word
Credentials: In-house training from a law firm or law clerk program

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be non-smokers
  • The candidates should be comfortable working in an air-conditioned environment
  • The candidates should be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate meticulous attention to detail in their work, capable of working under pressure to meet tight deadline

Candidate Status:

  • Candidate must be a Canadian Citizen or temporary or permanent resident of Canada
  • Candidate must have legal authorization (Work Permit) to work in Canada

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to advise clients on legal proceedings, assemble documentary evidence in preparation for trial, and interview clients, witnesses, and other related parties
  • The candidates should be able to issue subpoenas, summonses, and warrants, perform clerical duties such as maintaining filing systems, and take legal action on landlord and tenant matters
  • The candidates should be able to write trial briefs, administer oaths and take affidavits and depositions, and schedule court trials
  • The candidates should be able to arrange pre-trial conferences and hearings, assist lawyers in preparation for mediation and judicial dispute resolutions, witness and certify the validity of signatures on documents, and draft legal correspondence
