Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a High School Diploma
Experience: Candidates should have previous patrolling experience

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to lift and carry toboggans weighing up to 60 lbs and tasks such as skiing in difficult conditions, working in cold and often inclement weather, handling high elevations, and carrying materials like tower pads and medical equipment
  • The candidates should have the ability to hear and speak clearly to detect beacon signals, respond to skiers requesting assistance, and communicate using radios and telephones

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should preferably possess an 80+ hour Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) Certificate or an 80+ hour OFA Level 3 or Wilderness First Aid Certificate
  • The candidates should have previous employment at Panorama Mountain Village, mountaineering experience, and previous medical training and be advanced skiers or better

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to use prior experience as a ski patroller to mentor new staff and ensure high performance among existing staff
  • The candidates should be able to occasionally host morning meetings to ensure the team is prepared for the day and identify workplace hazards and guide staff in making safety-focused decisions
  • The candidates should be able to assist with decisions and protocols during high-level emergency responses and facilitate interdepartmental information sharing
  • The candidates should be able to provide first aid assessment, treatment, and evacuation and perform detailed incident investigations, including preservation of facts, forms, and records
  • The candidates should be able to establish a safe skiing environment through trail checks, openings or closings, early season preparation, bootpacking, maintenance, obstacle marking, signage, sweeps, and race preparation and familiar with the terrain at Panorama Mountain where avalanche search and rescue is likely
  • The candidates should be able to perform lift evacuations in the event of a breakdown and enforce the Alpine Responsibility Code and visible to the public to provide skier information, conduct preventive maintenance inspections of equipment and respond to varying emergency situations
  • The candidates should be able to work with dispatchers to record tasks, including incident response, tasks, snow safety, general work, and special projects and safety of the skiing public and all Panorama Mountain Village employees on the mountain
