Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have standard educational qualifications such as a Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates should have experience in Emergency Care
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be regularly lifting and moving patients and equipment (between 25-50 lbs.) and involved in heavy lifting/pushing/pulling of stretchers (100 lbs.) and patients
- The candidates should be constantly standing, bending, stretching, kneeling, or pushing and pulling; sometimes in small and cramped spaces
- The candidates should constantly require visual concentration or alertness to drive ambulances, complete site and patient assessments, and to administer medications
- The candidates should work under time pressures in the pre-hospital emergency setting on a regular basis
- The candidates should be accustomed to a lack of control over work pace due to unpredictable situations during a medical emergency or unpredictable call volume
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have completed the Primary Care Paramedic Program
- The candidates should currently be registered with the Provincial Medical Oversight Program
- The candidates should have possession of a valid Class 4 Driver’s License as issued by the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador
- The candidates should have experience in Emergency Care and a satisfactory record of work performance
- The candidates must be willing to complete in-house training in personal care techniques and procedures provided by the employer
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to operate an ambulance in responding to emergencies and routine calls, providing skilled basic and advanced emergency care to persons suffering from a variety of illnesses and injuries
- The candidates should be able to assess, stabilize, and report on the nature and severity of the illness or injury as a Primary Care Paramedic
- The candidates should be able to provide personal care on designated nursing units in addition to ambulance coverage and able to report directly to the Operations Supervisors
- The candidates should be able to perform work with considerable independence and review through observation, examination of records/reports, and the presence or absence of valid complaints
