Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Post Secondary Diploma specifically related to Network Infrastructure administration and analysis
Experience: Candidates should have 2 year of intensive network experience in switching, routing, and firewalls

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be capable of performing the physical requirements of the job, including lifting up to 35 kilograms
  • The candidates should be prepared for testing during the application process

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess a degree in an appropriate specialty specifically related to Network Infrastructure administration and analysis, along with 1 year of intensive network experience in switching, routing, and firewalls
  • The candidates should have completed the twelfth school grade or GED and should have 4 years of intensive network experience in switching, routing, and firewalls
  • The candidates should have completed relevant computer certificate programs, generally having a minimum of 700+ instructional hours, and including relevant coursework for the position
  • The candidates should have experience with designing, monitoring, and securing IP networks over Ethernet, copper, fibre, and wireless environments
  • The candidates should possess extensive knowledge of Cisco Switches and Routers, including protocols like OSPF and BGP
  • The candidates should have Checkpoint CCSA/CCSE certification and hold a Cisco CCNA, and CCNP
  • The candidates should demonstrate knowledge of Cisco Wireless infrastructure and familiar with cloud networking and virtualization technologies
  • The candidates should have familiarity with Python and Ansible for automation and integration with network devices
  • The candidates should have experience with Cisco Technologies like SDWAN, ACI, ISE, and DNA, which would be considered an asset
  • The candidates should exhibit exceptional organizational, interpersonal, teamwork, verbal, and written skills, as well as a strong focus on customer service and troubleshooting
  • The candidates should be willing to complete an Enhanced Security Clearance and accept employment with the Edmonton Police Service, they acknowledge and agree to participate in future Enhanced Security Re-Clearances at scheduled intervals or in any other circumstances, exigent or otherwise, as required by the Human Resources Division

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform the day-to-day operation and maintenance of all network solutions, including a high number of remote network locations
  • The candidates should be able to engage in ongoing enhancement and tuning of the network, leveraging its capabilities to provide solutions for new initiatives
  • The candidates should be able to establish network performance standards and set up performance monitoring and alerting
  • The candidates should be able to monitor logs and network traffic for unusual or suspicious activity and implement resolutions
  • The candidates should be able to evaluate resolutions, analyze trends, and develop and implement measures to prevent future problems
  • The candidates should be able to provide analytical operational support, including diagnosing and troubleshooting network physical or logical issues
  • The candidates should be able to provide network LAN support and conduct patching of fiber/copper network cables using specialized tools
  • The candidates should be able to work collaboratively with all members of the IT Branch to ensure that all issues are addressed in a timely manner, and proper coordination is carried out to minimize disruption of the corporate network
