Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Emergency First Aid or CPR B Certification
Experience: Candidates should have experience leading group aquatic exercise classes
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be capable of light lifting of supplies and primarily work in a pool environment
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have a current group aquatic exercise certification from a recognized association, such as the Canadian Aquafitness Leaders Alliance (CALA), Aquatic Exercise Association (AEA), Water Art, AQX, or a program meeting the NFLA standards or equivalent, with mandatory continuing education credits
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to create a safe and enjoyable environment by coordinating with lifeguard staff to start classes on time and finish within the allotted time
- The candidates should be able to lead designated classes in a professional manner and provide verbal, visual, and kinesthetic cueing for exercises and techniques to cater to various learning styles
- The candidates should be able to provide permission and options through verbal and visual demonstrations for exercise modifications to ensure comfort, intensity variations, and inclusion for all participants
- The candidates should be able to deliver a combination of education and motivation suitable for the format and participant group and supervise participants, providing feedback to ensure safe movements, particularly when using equipment
- The candidates should be able to create a variety of aquatic exercise classes that are fun, safe, and technically sound to meet program objectives and goals and plan exercises and modifications that offer a range of comfort and intensity options to ensure all participants feel safe and successful
- The candidates should be able to plan and prepare music that suits the class format and participants’ needs while accounting for facility conditions and share information about the community center with class participants
- The candidates should be able to respond to customers’ needs and questions with accurate information or guidance, referring to alternate resources for topics outside the scope of knowledge and prepare safety equipment and mats on deck and ensure class equipment is in good repair and positioned poolside
- The candidates should be able to prepare the audio system for music and microphone use, and safely return all equipment to storage after use and mentor new instructors
- The candidates should be able to complete timesheets, bather load, and other statistics collection sheets and work collaboratively with the aquatic and facility team to handle emergencies effectively
