Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have certification specializing in aquatics as recognized by AFLCA (Alberta Fitness Leadership Certification Association)
Experience: Candidates should have experience leading a variety of aquatic classes

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate correct exercise methods and proper use of exercise equipment during aquatic fitness classes
  • The candidates should be able to swim a minimum of 25 meters (shallow and deep end)
  • The candidates should be willing to complete the applicable training programs and should be a minimum of 18 years of age
  • The candidates should complete a swim test and lead a drop-in aqua-fit class comfortably both in and out of the water

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess a current leadership certification specializing in aquatics as recognized by CALA (Canadian Aqua-fitness Leaders Alliance) or Water-ART or YMCA Group Fitness in Aqua-fitness and additional fitness certifications, and Valid Intermediate First Aid and CPR Level C certification
  • The candidates should have knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques employed in aquatic fitness instruction
  • The candidates should have excellent communication skills; they must be able to deliver instructions clearly and effectively
  • The candidates should have excellent customer service skills with the ability to motivate and encourage participants
  • The candidates should have the ability to recognize emergency situations and react accordingly
  • The candidates should have hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check, including Vulnerable Sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
  • The candidates should demonstrate alignment with the Cultural Commitments of Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated, and Excellent, fostering an environment for others to do the same
  • The candidates should be able to evaluate and adjust aquatic fitness programs based on participant age, ability and fitness level

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to design and lead aquatic group fitness classes, delivering excellence in service and programming at various recreation and leisure centers throughout the City of Edmonton
  • The candidates should be able to incorporate motivating music selections into fitness classes to enhance participant engagement
  • The candidates should be able to maintain a safe environment for customers and staff in and around the water during classes
  • The candidates should be able to attend in-service training and complete online training when required to stay up-to-date with industry standards and best practices
  • The candidates should be able to perform other related duties as required by the Community and Recreation Facilities Branch
