Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should hold a certificate or diploma in Urban Forestry and Arboriculture
Experience: Candidates should have 2+ years of tree climbing experience and practical arboriculture work experience

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should a related discipline from a recognized institution, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • The candidates should have in addition to a valid Crane Operator (0-8 tons) certificate and a “Safety in Line Clearing” certificate from the Electrical Utility Safety Association or equivalent
  • The candidates should possess an ISA Certified Tree Worker designation and a certificate in the Trade of Arborist (Provincial designation)
  • The candidates should be knowledgeable in current accepted industry practices and be physically fit, capable of working in varying climate conditions
  • The candidates should demonstrate effective communication skills, both oral and written, as well as time management skills and flexibility in adjusting to a variety of duties
  • The candidates should be able to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team, and possess an understanding of the Highway Traffic Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • The candidates should hold and provide a copy of a valid and unrestricted Ontario Driver’s License Class DZ minimum, with a responsible and safe driving record

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to implement assigned arboriculture work orders including pruning, removal, and cabling according to current policies and procedures and generally accepted maintenance practices
  • The candidates should be able to operate specialized equipment including aerial bucket trucks, chippers, chain saws, skid steers, stumpers, and standard tree climbing equipment in a safe and efficient manner and maintain written records as required, including tree maintenance work orders, activity cards, and tailboard talk plans
  • The candidates should be able to provide work direction and training to other staff and carry out duties that meet Health and Safety standards in a safe and responsible manner and use a tablet computer to update completed work electronically
  • The candidates should be able to perform duties that include, but are not limited to, hydro line clearing, grid pruning projects, woodlands tree maintenance, diagnosing tree maintenance requirements, and occasional service requests
  • The candidates should be able to participate in an on-call out pager schedule 24/7 on a rotational basis throughout the year, including emergency storm management after hours service and perform other duties
