City of Edmonton’s Community Recreation and Culture Department provides a wide array of recreational programs and cultural events aimed at enhancing community wellness and engagement. It manages numerous facilities such as recreation centers and cultural venues, fostering social cohesion and promoting active living. Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Grade 12
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the demonstrated ability to work independently as well as on a team
  • The candidates should be capable of safely performing light to heavy manual labor for extended periods under various weather and environmental conditions
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to plan, prioritize, and multitask

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience and training using ice resurfacers, tractors, or other related equipment of similar size and complexity. An equivalent combination of training and experience and possess a WHMIS certificate
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to manage and maintain natural and artificial turf areas
  • The candidates should hold Recreation Facility Personnel (RFP) Arena Operator Level I and Level II Certification
  • The candidates should have knowledge of safety precautions and hazards related to assigned work
  • The candidates should demonstrate strong customer service and interpersonal skills and demonstrate the ability to understand verbal and written instructions and communicate in a professional manner
  • The candidates should have competent computer skills, including knowledge of Google Applications (Docs, Sheets and Sites)

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to build, resurface, and remove ice using related equipment and tools
  • The candidates should be able to perform custodial, sanitation, and minor maintenance services
  • The candidates should be able to complete routine inspections of the facility before, during, and after facility use
  • The candidates should be able to maintain high-quality artificial and natural turf through maintenance and management practices
  • The candidates should be able to provide quality customer service to a diverse range of arena facility and sports field users by answering questions, addressing concerns, and directing customers
  • The candidates should be able to ensure adherence to all arena and sports field operations procedures
  • The candidates should be able to handle administration tasks, including supply inventory, reporting, and inspections
  • The candidates should be able to maintain compliance with all City of Edmonton policies and procedures, as well as OH and S standards and practices
  • The candidates should be able to plan, prioritize, and organize tasks to meet daily schedules for arena or field user groups
  • The candidates should be able to maintain communication and relationships with recreation and leisure centre facilities’ staff
