Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as a Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates should have experience in the operation and maintenance of commonly used highway maintenance equipment

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • The candidates should have operator certification on core light and heavy-duty equipment and be able to be certified as a Capable Person Trainer
  • The candidates should have the ability to respond to an emergency situation within a reasonable time frame (30 minutes)
  • The candidates should be able to work extended hours, weekends, and on statutory holidays, and be called out to work at unusual hours
  • The candidates should be able to work in all weather conditions, and be prepared for both extreme heat and cold
  • The candidates should possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 3.0 driver’s license with air brake endorsement without restrictions

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience related to highway maintenance operations and ability to complete paperwork and prepare reports
  • The candidates should have experience with road maintenance policies, practices, and materials
  • The candidates should have knowledge of Occupational Safety, Health, and Risk Management Policies and Procedures and decision-making skills
  • The candidates should have strong interpersonal communication skills, leadership skills and organizational and time management skills
  • The candidates should have basic computer experience (such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet)
  • The candidates should have knowledge of Maintenance Management System (MMS)

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to take on the leadership role overseeing maintenance employees involved in a variety of highway maintenance tasks
  • The candidates should be able to plan and schedule maintenance activities for the highway network
  • The candidates should be able to ensure the availability of manpower and equipment required for maintenance tasks
  • The candidates should be able to coordinate various routine highway maintenance tasks and manage special projects
  • The candidates should be able to monitor and evaluate the performance of maintenance employees
  • The candidates should be able to provide training and guidance to maintenance staff and ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations
  • The candidates should be able to communicate effectively with team members, stakeholders, and supervisors
  • The candidates should be able to address and resolve any issues that arise during maintenance activities
