Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Engineering Technology Diploma in Telecommunications, Wireless Systems, Electronics or a related communications technology diploma from a recognized institute of technology
Experience: Candidates should have 1 year experience in troubleshooting and repairing electronic components, network wiring and network configurations

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates must be able to perform outside work in all weather conditions
  • The candidates should possess the ability to work with minimal supervision to achieve proper and effective operation of the automated enforcement systems
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to meet tight deadlines in resolving malfunctions and manage several projects simultaneously

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess a Journeyman Electronic Technician Certificate recognized by the Province of Alberta
  • The candidates should have experience working with computer systems, system integration, configuration, and software installations
  • The candidates should demonstrate experience in reviewing engineering drawings, manuals, specifications, and technical documents
  • The candidates should have experience with wire terminations and splicing, as well as working with AC and DC power
  • The candidates should have technical knowledge of intersection safety device design, operation, and maintenance, vehicle detection systems and technologies, radar principles and operations, and traffic control system
  • The candidates should have knowledge and application of Occupational Health and Safety regulations and attention to detail with strong written and verbal communication skills
  • The candidates should have the ability to communicate and deal effectively with internal staff, contractors, the general public, and equipment operators
  • The candidates should have experience using Google Suite Applications
  • The candidates should have possession of a Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator’s Licence, with eligibility to obtain a City Driver’s Permit

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to be responsible for the installation, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance of various automated enforcement equipment used by the Safe Mobility Section
  • The candidates should be able to follow all workplace safety practices and Safe Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • The candidates should be able to service the Intersection Safety Device systems to address trouble tickets entered into the Maintenance Ticketing System, including configuration, programming, troubleshooting, and testing of the system or its components
  • The candidates should be able to use vendor-specific software interfaces and 3rd party IT programs to complete system configurations and set up network and cellular communications, wiring, and terminations according to diagrams and procedures
  • The candidates should be able to perform basic electrical work, wiring, and electrical testing on Intersection Safety Devices and coordinate with contractors for equipment installation, including in-road sensors, confirm installation specifications are met, perform wire splices, and sensor tests
  • The candidates should be able to follow road safety procedures and traffic accommodation procedures to maintain embedded road sensors and evaluate system log files and daily reports to verify system functionality
  • The candidates should be able to accurately complete detailed service reports, spreadsheets, and updates to equipment inventory and plan, manage, and complete preventative maintenance procedures on enforcement equipment
  • The candidates should be able to install, service, and repair other equipment such as Driver Feedback Signs, battery boxes, and video cameras used by the Safe Mobility section
  • The candidates should be able to maintain and organize city vehicles for proper upkeep and everyday use and effectively prioritize, plan, and manage time
  • The candidates should be able to ensure compliance with the manufacturer’s specifications, electrical code, and CSA approval while meeting the City of Edmonton and Provincial requirements
