Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the Inuktitut, English, and French Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a degree in Mechanical Engineering
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be willing to attend courses and seminars to stay current with technological advances in the mechanical field
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have Certification as a “Class 2 Power Engineer”, OR Certification as a “Class 3 Power Engineer” to be achieved within one year of appointment
- The candidates should have Certification in Non-Destructive Testing, which must be achieved within one year of appointment to meet the requirements of the Federal Contract
- The candidates should have a valid Nunavut’s Class 5 Driver’s License and possess a high level of tact to handle situations requiring persuasion or enforcement of the Act and Regulations
- The candidates should have fluency in one or more of Nunavut’s official languages (Inuktitut, English, and French), with fluency in multiple languages
- The candidates should have knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to evaluate installations and equipment for compliance with the Act and Regulations to reduce the loss of life, injury, and property damage and assist in the effective implementation of safety boilers and pressure vessels
- The candidates should be able to ensure the mechanical systems in Nunavut operate in a safe and efficient manner
- The candidates should be able to advise on the proper installation of equipment based on codes and practices and perform contract inspections on an annual basis
- The candidates should be able to identify and register approved plans for boiler and pressure vessel installations and inspect and test boiler and pressure vessel controls to ensure proper operation
- The candidates should be able to evaluate the experience and qualifications of applicants for certification or examination and conduct operating engineer examinations and welding performance qualification tests
- The candidates should be able to issue power engineer and welder certificates and write reports on inspections and investigations, documenting findings and actions taken
- The candidates should be able to ensure hazard alerts and information are provided to the public to promote safety awareness
- The candidates should be able to examine construction drawings and material specifications for compliance with safety standards
- The candidates should be able to conduct inspections and investigations in remote locations, requiring extensive travel
