Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have educational qualifications such as Grade 10
Experience: Candidates should have 1 year of related experience

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to climb ladders and stairs and operate a Bridge Kiosk
  • The candidates should be willing to work outside in all weather conditions (rare)
  • The candidates should be prepared to work from heights occasionally
  • The candidates should be aware of potential exposure to abusive people (rare)

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to understand and discuss job-related matters
  • The candidates should be capable of operating a cantilever bridge
  • The candidates should maintain accurate records

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to operate the Johnson Street Bridge to permit the passage of marine traffic
  • The candidates should be able to raise and lower the Johnson Street bridge according to standing orders and regulations to permit the passage of marine traffic
  • The candidates should be able to operate radio equipment to contact marine traffic to schedule bridge lifts
  • The candidates should be able to control vehicular, rail, and pedestrian traffic by operating gates, traffic lights, and warning devices
  • The candidates should be able to turn on navigation, pier, and roadway lights and replace lights as required and able to raise and lower bridges manually using emergency procedures and standby engines
  • The candidates should be able to clean and maintain machinery rooms and areas and be able to lubricate gears, trunnions, and gates
  • The candidates should be able to conduct operational inspections of auxiliary motors and be able to maintain records of marine and rail traffic and bridge operations
