Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed a bachelor’s degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, or Recreation and Leisure Studies
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of three years of related clinical experience as a Recreation Therapist

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess active or eligible registration for Professional Membership with the Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA)
  • The candidates should be able to perform additional responsibilities and demonstrate excellent communication skills and computer literacy
  • The candidates should have previous experience in a leadership role, providing direction to therapy assistants

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to take a leadership role in ensuring that therapeutic recreation practices are evidence-based, patient-and-family-centered, and align with policies, procedures, and standards of practice
  • The candidates should be able to provide clinical leadership to ensure safe and efficient care while coordinating assessment, treatment, education, and care for patients (clients or residents)
  • The candidates should be able to participate in program development by contributing to protocols, forms, education, and quality improvement initiatives for effective service delivery
  • The candidates should be able to conduct assessments, treatments, education, and management of clients’ treatment progress, providing clinical support and consultation
  • The candidates should be able to collaborate and communicate with the health care team and participate in patient rounds, family conferences, and meetings concerning the client and family
