Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have completion of a minimum of Grade 12
Experience: Candidates should have at least five years of experience in general building repairs, construction, and maintenance
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be available and willing to work overtime and situations by taking appropriate corrective actions
- The candidates should carry out maintenance work on mechanical and electrical systems and equipment
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should possess general skills in the electrical and mechanical fields and a Certificate of Qualification in a maintenance-related trade
- The candidates should be proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications, and other technical documentation
- The candidates should demonstrate problem-solving, troubleshooting, and manual dexterity skills, with the ability to climb ladders and work on equipment at various heights (both interior and exterior) and identify potential problems and respond to emergency
- The candidates should be familiar with all applicable municipal and provincial codes, regulations, legislations, and by-laws Ontario Building Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, TSSA codes and regulations, and WHMIS
- The candidates should have strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work in a team-based environment
- The candidates should be proficient with computer systems to use computerized Building Automation Systems and other software applications used by the City and possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to respond to requests for service from building tenants and make alterations or repairs to environmental systems
- The candidates should be able to monitor and control building environmental systems by conducting regular inspections of mechanical and electrical systems
- The candidates should be able to carry out daily rounds and inspections of mechanical equipment within the Civic Centre facilities and make adjustments
- The candidates should be able to maintain logs and records of operational and maintenance activities, including testing and recording water systems, utility readings, and life safety systems (sprinklers)
- The candidates should be able to ensure proper safety procedures are followed at all times and liaise with external vendors to assist in carrying out work effectively and maintain good public relations by presenting a professional, knowledgeable, and conscientious image to the public
- The candidates should be able to keep abreast of new technology and changes to regulations relevant to building services
- The candidates should be able to provide assistance to other Building Services and Operations staff members
- The candidates should be able to perform minor tasks such as lamp replacement, filter changes, picture hanging, keyboard tray adjustments, and cleaning of equipment and rooms and perform other duties
