Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed an Early Childhood Assistant Certificate
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience working specifically with children aged 0-4 years old
  • The candidates should have experience working with children in a group setting and caring for the individual needs of children up to 10 years of age in either a volunteer or employment capacity
  • The candidates should have a strong ability to work effectively as a team member and accurately follow instructions
  • The candidates should have the ability to lift or carry children of various ages and weighing up to 20 kgs
  • The candidates should be available on an as-required part-time basis only
  • The candidates should have availability between the hours of 7:00 a.m to 6:00 p.m
  • The candidates should be prepared for varying hours of work, which may include split shifts (8:00 a.m to 10:00 a.m, 2:00 p.m to 5:30 p.m)
  • The candidates should have a minimum 3-day availability, although 5-day availability would be preferred for scheduling purposes
  • The candidates should be aware that some work may be scheduled in advance or may be call-in work on the day of the shift
  • The candidates should note that there are no guaranteed minimum hours per pay period

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to obtain and maintain a valid standard first aid certification including infant and child cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) prior to the start of employment
  • The candidates should have a valid email address and be able to communicate on a regular basis through email
  • The candidates should have the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • The candidates should have the ability to use computers, access and complete training modules
  • The candidates should have the ability to support and implement change reflective of the City of Toronto’s Action Plan for confronting Anti-Black Racism
  • The candidates should have the ability to support and implement change reflective of the City of Toronto’s commitment to Indigenous Communities and Reconciliation Action Plan
  • The candidates should have the ability to assist with and adhere to Health and Safety practices and protocols including sanitizing and disinfecting
  • The candidates should have general knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Child Care and Early Years Act, and Child and Family Services Act with the ability to apply such legislation in the workplace
  • The candidates should have general knowledge of the Toronto Public Health guidelines relating to Child Care environments
  • The candidates should be required to undergo a pre-placement medical assessment and provide a current Vulnerable Sector Police Reference Check
  • The candidates should required to have a valid First Aid and CPR Certificate

Responsibilities:

  • The candidate should be able to assist, supervise, and guide children throughout their day under the direction of Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECEs)
  • The candidate should be able to assist with the set-up of play areas as planned by RECEs
  • The candidate should be able to assist in the set-up and clean-up of children’s activities and learning areas, including snacks and meals
  • The candidate should be able to assist in the completion of forms, documenting children’s routines and accidents
  • The candidate should be able to assist in the supervision of children during outdoor playground time, ensuring all areas are safe from hazards removal of broken equipment from play areas
  • The candidate should be able to assist in escorting children to Public and Separate Schools and trips outside the Early Learning and Child Care Centre  local community walks and bus trips
  • The candidate should be able to provide coverage to maintain legislated ratios at various times of the day
  • The candidate should be able to monitor and supervise small groups of children
  • The candidate should be able to interact with children of various ages in a positive, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate manner
  • The candidate should be able to interact with parents, colleagues and visitors in a professional manner
