Salary: $20.00 to $26.00 hourly (To be negotiated) for 22 hours per week
Employment Type: Permanent employment Full time
Location: Courtenay, BC
Shifts: Day
Transportation information: Own transportation
Work setting: Child care centre, urban area, before and after school programs, relocation costs not covered by employer
Supervision: 11-15 people

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as a College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 3 months to less than 1 year or equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates should have experience of 1 to less than 2 years 
Credentials: Child development assistant (ECE level 1), child development worker (ECE level 2), emergency child care first aid and CPR, HIGH FIVE training (principles of healthy child development), and Early Childhood Education (ECE) Certificate
Security and safety: Criminal record check, Child Abuse Registry check, and immunization records

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be comfortable working outdoors and in noisy environments.
  • The candidates should be non-smokers and comfortable working in air-conditioned environments
  • The candidates should efficiently perform repetitive tasks and handle physically demanding tasks
  • The candidates should demonstrate attention to detail, possess manual dexterity, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • The candidates should be comfortable with a combination of sitting, standing, walking, and various physical movements
  • The candidates should work well under pressure, ensuring quality and efficiency in their tasks

Candidate Status:

  • Candidate must be a Canadian Citizen or temporary or permanent resident of Canada
  • Candidate must have legal authorization (Work Permit) to work in Canada

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to assess the children’s development, prepare tailored learning plans, and engage in storytelling
  • The candidates should be able to assist co-workers in housekeeping, cooking duties, and engaging children in creative activities
  • The candidates should be able to develop and implement child-care programs, maintain daycare equipment, and order necessary supplies
  • The candidates should be able to observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioral problems, prepare reports, and discuss progress at staff meetings
  • The candidates should have knowledge of licensing regulations, establish guidelines for behavior, and maintain collaborative relationships
  • The candidates should be able to plan and organize activities for children and school-age children, ensuring a safe and healthy environment
  • The candidates should be able to perform administrative and office activities, assess clients’ development needs, and engage in food preparation
  • The candidates should be able to direct and advise professional and non-professional staff, maintaining a supportive environment for child care
