Archway Community Services based in Abbotsford, BC is inviting applications from suitable candidates for the position of Chore hand – agriculture. Type of crops: Bell peppers, Blueberries, Cabbage, Carrots, Cauliflowers, Cucumbers, Field berries, Onions, Strawberries, Zucchinis, Vegetables, and Microgreens

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as College, CEGEP, or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 3 months to less than 1 year, Agriculture, general, Agricultural business technology, Crop production, Agricultural production operations, other, and Biology/biological sciences, general
Experience: Candidates don’t need experience, training will be provided
Student status: Full-time enrollment
Security and safety: Criminal record check

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience in fruit and vegetable combination farming, be familiar with organic farming practices, and have knowledge of other miscellaneous crop farming
  • The candidates should be experienced in other vegetables and melon farming (except potato), be comfortable working outdoors, and able to work in wet or damp conditions
  • The candidates should be accustomed to working in dusty environments, able to work in all weather conditions, and prepared to work in dirty conditions
  • The candidates should be able to work independently, handle repetitive tasks efficiently, and work under pressure
  • The candidates should be able to handle heavy loads as needed, be physically capable of meeting demandi Edit date and time ng job requirements, and possess manual dexterity for precise tasks
  • The candidates should demonstrate attention to detail in their work, be able to stand for extended periods if necessary, and be comfortable with tasks involving bending, crouching, and kneeling
  • The candidates should be able to sit for extended periods if necessary, handle a combination of sitting, standing, and walking as part of their duties, and walk for extended periods if required
  • The candidates should be able to handle weights up to 23 kg (50 lbs) as needed

  • The candidates should possess efficient interpersonal skills, exhibit flexibility in their approach to tasks and schedules, and exercise good judgment
  • The candidates should be organized in managing their responsibilities, demonstrate reliability, and be team players capable of collaborating effectively with colleagues
  • The candidates should uphold values and ethics in their work, be quick learners, and able to adapt to new tasks and responsibilities efficiently

Candidate Status:

  • Candidate must be a Canadian Citizen or temporary or permanent resident of Canada
  • Candidate must have legal authorization (Work Permit) to work in Canada
  • If Candidates are unable to fulfill above mentioned requirements, don’t apply for the position

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to cut agricultural crops, divide fresh harvested produce into marketable lots and non-marketable lots, and grade vegetables and fruits into different grades according to size, shape, color, and volume to fetch high prices in the market
  • The candidates should be able to hand-harvest vegetables, pick row and orchard crops, and plant, cultivate, and irrigate crops
  • The candidates should be able to sort fruits and vegetables, tie and secure plants, and perform weeding
  • The candidates should be able to harvest crops, load, unload, and transfer crates, supplies, farm produce, livestock, and poultry, and examine products for quality and readiness for the market
