Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a High School Diploma
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in corporate or industrial security or law enforcement

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to work under stress, handle multiple tasks and responsibilities and apply conflict resolution and negotiation techniques
  • The candidates should be able to apply administrative and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize work to meet deadlines

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have excellent keyboarding and computer skills and solid command of the English language (both verbal and written), with excellent listening and effective communication skills
  • The candidates should have a working knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada, provincial statutes, and university policies
  • The candidates should have a working knowledge of radio and telephone operations and practices or procedures for control of concise radio communication related to first response or emergency services
  • The candidates should be able to extract pertinent information over the telephone, radio, and in face-to-face situations quickly and accurately in a wide range of emergency and routine situations
  • The candidates should demonstrate sensitivity toward the cultural diversity of the campus and pass a background investigation, including criminal records check, psychological screening, credit check, reliability or reference check, employment history, and social media check
  • The candidates should be required to take an “oath of confidentiality” pursuant to Section 29(1) of the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act
  • The candidates should have a valid first aid certificate (Standard level) with CPR level C from a recognized provider
  • The candidates should have a college diploma in 9-1-1 Emergency and Call Centre Communications or a similar program and prior call-center or volunteer distress center experience

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to work under the general supervision of the Shift Manager and function as the first point of contact for the public
  • The candidates should be able to provide personal safety for members of the university community in a courteous, helpful, and professional manner
  • The candidates should be able to receive, dispatch, and assist in coordinating responses to emergency and routine calls for service from the campus community
  • The candidates should be able to monitor security systems and coordinate responses to alarms
