Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a Nursing Degree
Experience: Candidates should have two years of recent nursing experience

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be highly mobile and able to stand and walk for extended periods, often for the majority of a 7.5-hour shift
  • The candidates should be able to bend, lift equipment, assist patients in and out of wheelchairs, and lift up to 50 lbs, including incapacitated clients within the Health Centre
  • The candidates should be prepared for moderate exposure to communicable diseases, blood, body fluids, and hazardous materials throughout entire shifts
  • The candidates should effectively use the combined senses of touch, sight, smell, and hearing for client assessment and observation, approximately 70% of the time
  • The candidates should expect frequent on-call duties, with 10+ days per month, and regular call-backs to work
  • The candidates should be able to manage frequent interruptions and external factors that dictate the work pace
  • The candidates should be prepared to provide nursing services to clients who may be abusive, under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or under RCMP escort, with potential concerns for personal safety both on and off duty in a small community setting

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have an Emergency Room (ER) setting or within a Community Health Centre
  • The candidates should provide proof of immunization in keeping with current public health practices

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to report to the (NIC) and provide community health services in the Health Center and provide on-call medical support and rotational coverage to the community
  • The candidates should be able to deliver non-emergency medical care and respond to medical crises that may require decision-making outside of usual policies, procedures, and nursing care standards
  • The candidates should be able to provide nursing core services designed to promote community health and wellness and prevent injury across the lifespan
  • The candidates should be able to assess, requisition, and analyze selected diagnostic tests and therapeutics based on assessment findings
  • The candidates should be able to select, dispense, and monitor the effectiveness of selected drugs and interventions
  • The candidates should be able to provide critical, emergency, or unexpected care supported by other CHNs, the NIC, and a practitioner, either remotely or in person
  • The candidates should be able to offer services within the Community Health Centre, through virtual modalities, in community halls, schools, long-term care facilities, or in a patient’s home Home Care
  • The candidates should be able to provide wellness promotion, injury prevention, and suffering reduction services through independent practice or as part of an interdisciplinary care team
  • The candidates should be able to provide on-call coverage on a rotational basis during evenings and weekends for emergency nursing care
