Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English and French Language
Education: Candidates should have a professional accounting designation
Experience: Candidates should have five years of financial and administrative experience in a computerized accounting environment

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should reside within 25 kilometers of Fort Simpson to be eligible for this job opening

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have knowledge of budgeting, formula funding, financial analysis, and reporting, including the ability to prepare financial reports and statements
  • The candidates should possess knowledge of financial legislation, policies and procedures
  • The candidates should demonstrate knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and the ability to establish and manage accounting systems and internal controls
  • The candidates should have knowledge of relevant human resources legislation, policies and procedures, particularly in the areas of staffing, personnel, and benefits administration
  • The candidates should have knowledge of the administration of student records, or the ability to acquire and apply such knowledge
  • The candidates should be proficient in managing electronic data processing systems, including computerized financial information and accounting systems, human resources and payroll systems, and student records systems
  • The candidates should have strong written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, negotiations, facilitation and public speaking skills
  • The candidates should possess a professional accounting designation as well as having one (1) year of supervisory or team lead experience. Equal combinations of education and experience

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to report directly to the Superintendent, designated as the Deputy Head under the Education Act
  • The candidates should be able to function as part of the DDEC’s Senior Management Team, alongside the Superintendent and the Supervisor of Schools
  • The candidates should be able to work within a flat hierarchy where there are no managerial level positions reporting to the Comptroller
  • The candidates should be able to perform functions normally associated with positions such as assistant directors or managers of finance, policy and planning, human resources, and information technology, in addition to their role as Comptroller
