Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have High school graduation
Experience: Candidates should have 2 years of experience in concrete construction and finishing
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should have the ability to build forms, place and finish concrete frequently
- The candidates should operate jackhammers, cut-off saws, plate tampers, and compactors occasionally
- The candidates should be able to work outside in all weather conditions continuously
- The candidates should be exposed to equipment noise often, Working on construction sites is a continuous and may need to work in moving traffic occasionally
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should be able to understand and apply the techniques of concrete construction and finishing
- The candidates should be proficient in using hand tools, instruments, and operating power equipment
- The candidates should be capable of reading and interpreting engineering drawings, utility information sheets, and grade sheets
- The candidates should be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- The candidates should be skilled in working and operating equipment safely, holding a current and valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s license
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to perform various tasks to prepare sites, construct forms, and finish concrete for curbs, gutters, and sidewalks
- The candidates should be able to prepare sites for concrete work, such as sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and driveways, by reading and interpreting engineering plans and grade sheets to determine the location of underground services and utilities
- The candidates should be able to set up traffic control and act as a padman to direct the operation of various construction and excavation equipment
- The candidates should be able to calculate grades and alignments established from grade sheets and control points
- The candidates should be able to construct wooden forms and set metal pins and arms to control the alignment of the curb extruder
- The candidates should be able to place concrete by shoveling and leveling, finishing with a trowel, broom, and edger
- The candidates should be able to determine, prepare, and apply various chemical retardants and curing compounds
- The candidates should be able to finish exposed aggregate concrete by applying chemicals, broom and washing surfaces, and applying other techniques such as stamping
- The candidates should be able to install and finish various catch basins, castings, boxes, interlocking paving bricks, tiles, and sleeves and apply surface cleaning and finishing treatments such as acid washes and sealers
- The candidates should be able to operate various hand and power equipment such as shovels, jackhammers, and concrete saws, operate Bobcat-type loaders and operate a vehicle to transport equipment and materials
