Transportation information: Willing to travel regularly, valid driver’s license, and public transportation is not available
Work setting: Room and board provided, rural area, willing to relocate, relocation costs not covered by employer, and business
Types of crops: Asparagus, bell peppers, blueberries, cabbage, carrots, cauliflowers, cucumbers, garlic, melons, onions, raspberries, strawberries, tomatoes, zucchinis, herbs, greenhouse tomatoes, and greenhouse vegetables
Supervision: 1  to 2 people

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Asset language: German
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as college/CEGEP certificate
Experience: Candidates should have experience of 2 to less than 3 years
Area of specialization: Detection and treatment of bee diseases, harvesting honey, honey bees, honey farm, knowledge of bee biology, native plants, perennials, Cattle breeding, project management, nursery or greenhouse, interactive/new media, beef cattle, and horses
Product inspection experience: Poultry
Equipment and machinery experience: Farm truck, forage equipment, fruit harvester, haying equipment, manure spreader, seed drill, swather, tractor, and hand tools
Automated systems experience: Manure handling and storage, and feeding and watering system
Computer and technology knowledge: MS Access, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Word, and MS Outlook
Security and safety: Criminal record check

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate attention to detail in their work
  • The candidates should be capable of working under pressure and possess hand-eye coordination skills
  • The candidates should be adept at handling repetitive tasks and have the ability to distinguish between colors
  • The candidates should be physically capable of handling heavy loads and comfortable with a combination of sitting, standing, and walking
  • The candidates should be prepared for a physically demanding role and able to perform bending, crouching, and kneeling as necessary
  • The candidates should be open to overtime when required and able to manage a large workload effectively

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to engage in brush collecting and participate in calving
  • The candidates should be able to engage in cleaning crops and perform farm animal grooming
  • The candidates should be able to manage feed inventory and participate in hand harvesting vegetables
  • The candidates should be able to handle animals and participate in livestock branding
  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate knowledge of permaculture and engage in soil fertility programs
  • The candidates should be able to engage in stone and/or wood picking and participate in weaning
  • The candidates should be able to engage in weeding and harvest crops
  • The candidates should be able to operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment and milk cows
  • The candidates should be able to clean stables, barns, barnyards, and pens and perform apiary work
  • The candidates should be able to detect disease and health problems in crops, livestock, and poultry, and examine produce for quality to prepare for the market
  • The candidates should be able to set and monitor water lines, air flow, and temperature in barns, pens, and chicken coops while acting as a spokesperson for an organization
  • The candidates should be able to train horses and recognize and treat certain livestock health problems
  • The candidates should be able to perform general farm duties and negotiate with clients for the provision of services
  • The candidates should be able to initiate and maintain contact with the media and formulate a feeding program
  • The candidates should be able to co-ordinate and supervise the work of general farm workers and harvesting laborers
  • The candidates should be able to answer written and oral inquiries and develop, implement, and evaluate communication strategies and programs
  • The candidates should be able to prepare and/or deliver educational, publicity, and information programs, materials, and sessions
  • The candidates should be able to gather, research, and prepare communication material and maintain livestock performance records
  • The candidates should be able to prepare or oversee the preparation of reports, briefs, bibliographies, speeches, presentations, website content, and press releases
  • The candidates should be able to supervise and oversee breeding and other livestock-related programs and growing and other crop-related operations
  • The candidates should be able to ensure farm safety and bio-security procedures are followed and select livestock for sale
  • The candidates should be able to assist in the preparation of brochures, reports, newsletters, and other material
