Government of Nova Scotia’s Public Prosecution Service department oversees criminal prosecutions, ensuring justice and public safety. It provide legal services such as case preparation and courtroom representation, working within Canadian legal frameworks. Functioning as a crucial arm of the justice system, it uphold integrity and fairness while safeguarding the rights of Nova Scotians. Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have a current Certificate of Standing from their law society, including all jurisdictions of which they are members, whether non-practicing or practicing
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of three years of full-time experience working as a Crown Attorney

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be willing to travel throughout the province to prosecute cases, which may involve extended periods of time

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be practicing members of the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society or eligible to become so
  • The candidates should possess a thorough understanding of the prosecution process and competence in criminal procedures, evidence, and substantive criminal law

Responsibilities:

  • The candidate should be able to report to the Chief Crown Attorney, Western Region, and be accountable for providing competent prosecution services
  • The candidate should be able to advise law enforcement agencies upon request
  • The candidate should be able to conduct the prosecution of charges resulting from matters within the Public Prosecution Service mandate that arise from law enforcement agency investigations and other prosecutions
  • The candidate should be able to perform other duties as directed by the Chief Crown Attorney, Western Region
