Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have a university degree in Cultural Planning, Economic Development, Cultural Studies, or a relevant field
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of five (5) years’ recent work experience in arts administration with policy development; consideration will be given to candidates with equivalent combinations of education and experience

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience in developing and delivering grant programs
  • The candidates should be positive and enthusiastic team players, demonstrating the ability to effectively work in partnership with members of the community
  • The candidates with experience working with community cultural not-for-profit organizations and knowledge of the Ontario Not-for-Profit Corporations Act would be considered an asset
  • The candidates should possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing and delivering presentations and reports
  • The candidates with experience in creative space development would be considered an asset
  • The candidates should have excellent project management and organizational skills
  • The candidates should demonstrate strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • The candidates should have strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • The candidates should exhibit a passion for promoting and maintaining a healthy and safe workplace, along with the ability to work respectfully and effectively in a team environment
  • The candidates should show a strong commitment to delivering quality customer service
  • The candidates should demonstrate a commitment to Reconciliation, Equity, Accessibility, Diversity, and Inclusion
  • The candidates should provide a Police Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check satisfactory to the City
  • The candidates should be ready to present proof of their current and valid certificate(s), licenses, and/or educational qualifications, if applicable

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to monitor the implementation of the current and future Waterloo Culture Plan and prepare and present an annual report to Council on the implementation status
  • The candidates should be able to revise the Culture Plan and related policies as required to ensure alignment with organizational goals and community needs
  • The candidates should be able to oversee funding opportunities to support cultural development, including managing the Arts Grant Program
  • The candidates should be able to develop and maintain cultural resources databases to facilitate access to information for stakeholders
  • The candidates should be able to coordinate affiliation service agreements for community arts organizations to foster collaboration and support
  • The candidates should be able to conduct annual Business Retention and Attraction surveys of arts sector organizations to monitor sector challenges and opportunities
  • The candidates should be able to plan, organize, and execute an annual arts summit or relevant capacity-building initiatives to promote cultural growth
  • The candidates should be able to lead creative space development initiatives to provide venues for artistic expression and community engagement
  • The candidates should be able to participate in departmental and corporate initiatives as required to contribute to organizational objectives
  • The candidates should be able to perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor to support the overall mission and vision of the organization
