Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a Bachelor’s degree with specialization in geography, land use planning, or resource management
Experience: Candidates should have experience in ESRI ArcGIS software, geospatial databases, applications, and tools

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to supervise and lead staff

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a College Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology. A comparable combination of education and related work experience
  • The candidates should have experience in land use planning and possess strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare technical and non-technical correspondence and reports
  • The candidates should have experience working with survey and elevation data and effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact effectively with department staff, external agencies, other professionals, and the general public
  • The candidates should have effective organizational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritize workloads to meet strict deadlines and possess strong analytical, research, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • The candidates should have strong verbal communication skills to communicate effectively and courteously with internal and external contacts and stakeholders
  • The candidates should have experience working independently with a high degree of initiative and knowledge of hydraulics, hydrology, floodplain management, and flooding or erosion risk assessment
  • The candidates should have knowledge of Provincial Land Use and Water Policies as they relate to development in flood risk areas or hazard lands, as well as the Water Resources Administration Act and be familiar with by-laws and development plans

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to review, assess, and recommend the suitability of land use and developments concerning hazards such as flooding, erosion, and bank instability
  • The candidates should be able to work under the direction of the Senior Flood Protection Planning Officer to review private land subdivisions, crown land proposals, development plans, and zoning by-laws
  • The candidates should be able to provide design flood information on water bodies to the public, consultants, and other government agencies
