Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a high school diploma
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 24 months of verifiable professional driving experience as a commercial vehicle driver, within the last 3 years

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a willingness to learn procedures in a regulatory environment
  • The candidates should be flexible with shifts or hours, accommodating assigned shifts based on operational needs, which may include days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays. Shift lengths vary according to events at Canadian Blood Services’ fixed and mobile donor centers, with some shifts being 8-11 hours long
  • The candidates should not be required to perform long haul or cross-border driving and demonstrate a strong culture of mutual respect and integrity
  • The candidates should have the physical capability to load, unload, push, and carry heavy clinic equipment and supplies, including stooping, kneeling, crouching, lifting up to 23 kg (50 lbs.), and pulling or pushing up to 136 kg (300 lbs.) on a wheeled platform

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess a valid Manitoba Class 4 driver’s license and a clean commercial driver’s abstract from within the last 30 days
  • The candidates should have basic computer skills and the ability to learn new systems and programs
  • The candidates should be able to communicate effectively in English, with a second language

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to utilize their experience with driving and transportation to ensure that blood and blood products are transported in accordance with safety measures and procedures, maintaining appropriate temperatures
  • The candidates should be able to ensure the safety of employees, donors, and volunteers traveling with them
  • The candidates should be able to conduct pre-trip inspections to ensure equipment is in proper working order and accurately complete all required documentation
  • The candidates should be able to assist the collections team by greeting and helping donors book or rebook appointments, leveraging their customer service skills
  • The candidates should be able to set up systems and Wi-Fi connections for mobile events, utilizing their familiarity with technology and aptitude for learning new programs
  • The candidates should be able to work with staff to carry, set up, and dismantle equipment and supplies, and load and unload equipment and supplies at donor center sites and upon return to the center, utilizing their superior interpersonal and communication skills
