Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed a high school diploma
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 24 months of verifiable professional driving experience as a commercial vehicle driver within the last 3 years
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should have basic computer skills and the ability to learn new systems and programs, a willingness to learn procedures in a regulatory environment
- The candidates should be flexible to accommodate assigned shifts, which vary based on operational needs. Shifts include days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays, with lengths ranging from 3 to 14 hours, depending on the event at Canadian Blood Services fixed and mobile donor centers
- The candidates should not be required for long haul or cross-border driving, be willing to travel to attend mobile events (2 to 3 nights) while driving a Canadian Blood Services vehicle
- The candidates should possess the physical capability to load, unload, push, and carry heavy clinic equipment and supplies. This includes stooping, kneeling, crouching, lifting up to 23 kg (50 lbs.), and pulling/pushing up to 136 kg (300 lbs.) with two persons on a wheeled platform, thrive in a strong culture of mutual respect and integrity
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should possess a valid Newfoundland Class 4 driver’s license and a clean commercial driver’s abstract from within the last 30 days
- The candidates should possess effective communication skills in English, with proficiency in a second language
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to ensure the safe transportation of blood and blood products in compliance with all safety measures and temperature control procedures
- The candidates should be able to prioritize the safety of employees, donors, and volunteers while in transit
- The candidates should be able to conduct pre-trip inspections to confirm that all equipment is functioning properly and complete necessary documentation accurately
- The candidates should be able to assist the collections team by greeting donors and helping them book or rebook appointments using effective customer service skills
- The candidates should be able to set up systems and Wi-Fi connections for mobile events, drawing on their familiarity with technology and willingness to learn new programs
- The candidates should be able to collaborate with staff to carry, set up, and dismantle equipment and supplies
- The candidates should be able to load and unload equipment and supplies at donor centre sites and upon return to the centre
