Salary: $24.98 to $27.13 hourly
Employment Type: Seasonal/temporary
Location: Cheticamp (Nova Scotia)
Shifts: Weekends, statutory holidays and provincial holidays
Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have standard educational qualifications such as a Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates should have experience in the operation of road graders or the ability to be trained to an acceptable level of proficiency in grader operation and five year driving experience free of at-fault traffic accidents, convictions, suspensions and revocations
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should operate heavy equipment in a safe and proficient manner and have substantial and extensive experience in the operation of commercial and heavy equipment, such as backhoes, excavators, dump trucks, salt trucks, and snow ploughs
- The candidates should operate a backhoe in a safe manner to dig trenches, perform general labor tasks as they relate to roads and grounds maintenance
- The candidates should work and/or travel in varied terrain, adverse weather conditions and wear a Parks Canada uniform
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have identify equipment malfunctions, carry out minor maintenance and repairs, determine the cause, and effectively report them
- The candidates should possess a valid and current Class 3 Nova Scotia driver’s license, or other provincial equivalency, with air brake endorsement and a driver’s abstract
- The candidates should exercise sound judgment, take responsibility, striving for excellence and demonstrate integrity
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to conduct highway/road/street clearing and snow removal using medium and heavy vehicles and equipment (big plows) requiring a Class 3 license with air-brake endorsement
- The candidates should be able to operate/control multiple blades and salting mechanisms
- The candidates should be able to perform ancillary road maintenance and labor services for the Parks Canada Agency
