Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed Grade 12
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of three years’ experience as a Journeyman Electrician or electrical contractor or an equivalent combination of training and experience
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have an apprenticeship in the electrical trade and obtain the Certification of Qualification for the Province of BC as an Electrical Inspector within 6 months of employment
- The candidates should have an FSR B certification, which will be considered an asset for this position and possess a valid BC driver’s license and have access to a vehicle for business purposes
- The candidates should have effective verbal and written communication skills, read and understand complex electrical drawings and advanced knowledge of the electrical trade
- The candidates should have advanced knowledge and understanding of applicable by-laws, regulations, and codes
- The candidates should have advanced knowledge of approved electrical materials, equipment, and related codes, standards, and processes involved
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to check electrical plans and inspect all types of electrical installations for compliance with regulations and codes
- The candidates should be able to provide technical advice, assistance, and interpretation to the public, contractors, engineers, and architects regarding regulated electrical work
- The candidates should be able to suggest alternative methods of complying with codes and regulations when faced with difficult situations
- The candidates should be able to ensure electrical code compliance and offer solutions for challenging installations
- The candidates should be able to write detailed reports and correspondence on issues such as inspections, complaints, and investigations
- The candidates should be able to coordinate the daily inspection schedule in collaboration with other inspectors to ensure efficiency and provide high-level customer service through effective verbal and written communication
- The candidates should be able to manage multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail and meeting deadlines and stay current on changes to electrical codes and industry standards to ensure proper enforcement and guidance
