Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as registered Apprenticeship certificate
Experience: Candidates don’t need experience although having experience is an asset
Area of specialization: Emergency power system, Fire alarm system, Security and surveillance system, Communications system, Data processing and computers, Lighting system, Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system, Closed-circuit television (CCTV)
Equipment and machinery experience: Generators, Conventional electrical devices, Fibre optics, Motors and controls, Solid state devices, Hand tools, HVAC
Own tools/equipment: Tools, Safety equipment/gear, Steel-toed safety boots, Hard hat
Credentials: Electrician Trade Certification, Working at heights training, First Aid Certificate, Construction Electrician Red Seal Certificate, Construction Safety Training Systems (CSTS) Certificate, Fall Arrest Protection Training Course

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to work in a fast-paced environment, handle heavy loads, and work in a physically demanding environment
  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate attention to detail

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be efficient interpersonal skills, excellent oral communication, and excellent written communication
  • The candidates should be initiative, organized, and team player

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to install electrical controls and panel boxes, replace and repair electrical controls and panel boxes, and demonstrate professionalism in customer service
  • The candidates should be able to install underground wiring and cables, keep maintenance reports and documentation, and design and construct single-phase service for single or multimeter installations
  • The candidates should be able to splice, join and connect wires, design and construct low voltage (30 to 750V) multiphase service for single or multimeter installations, and test and measure voltage, loads, ground faults integrity of circuits
  • The candidates should be able to determine appropriate selection of materials and methods for hazardous locations, troubleshoot and isolate faults, and connect power to audio and visual equipment
  • The candidates should be able to install surface mount and/or overhead cables, instruct apprentices, and install power generation, stand-by power generation and power conditioning systems
  • The candidates should be able to supervise other workers, ground and bond electrical equipment, systems and structures including swimming pools and hot tubs, and renovate electrical systems in residential and commercial structures
  • The candidates should be able to conduct preventive maintenance programs, read and interpret blueprints, maps, drawings and specifications, and commission systems and components
