Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English or French Language
Education: Candidates should have completed at a minimum of a 2-year post-secondary program in either a mechanical or electro-mechanical field (DEP in Quebec). (These trades/programs could include industrial mechanic, millwright, mechanical technician/technologist)
Experience: Candidates should have two years of experience within the last five years in the maintenance and repair of a variety of mechanical or electro-mechanical systems and equipment

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates must be able to safely lift items that weigh less than 22.7 kilograms (50 pounds), lifting heavy equipment and tools, and perform maintenance routines under a variety of conditions including cramped spaces, heights, and other awkward positions

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a diploma per the educational requirements mentioned above funded by Canada Post in the last five years
  • The candidates should be capable of testing, diagnosing, and adjusting mechanical or electro-mechanical systems and equipment
  • The candidates should possess an understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems and principles
  • The candidates should have a basic understanding of electronics and electrical systems and principles
  • The candidates should be able to operate a computer and use programs such as Windows and MS Office
  • The candidates should be able to recommend changes in prevention maintenance procedures and practices
  • The candidates should be capable of conducting investigations to determine the cause of breakdowns and recommending remedial action to prevent recurrences
  • The candidates should be skilled in troubleshooting
  • The candidates should be able to initiate work orders requesting corrective actions
  • The candidates should be able to report on circumstances surrounding equipment failures and recommend measures for corrective actions
  • The candidates should be able to educate other personnel on safe and effective operating procedures for the equipment/systems in use

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to read and interpret basic schematics, blueprints, and specifications
  • The candidates should be able to perform adjusting, repair, and overhaul work as breakdowns occur, including some welding tasks if necessary
  • The candidates should be able to complete documentation accurately and comprehensively
  • The candidates should be able to plan and organize their daily activities efficiently
  • The candidates should be able to communicate effectively with team members and supervisors
  • The candidates should be able to perform any other duties as required by the role
  • The candidates should be able to perform maintenance routines in a variety of environments and positions, including cramped spaces and heights, as needed
