Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Graduate in Civil, Chemical, Environmental or Earth Sciences Engineering Technology
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess the ability to plan, prioritize, and organize tasks effectively
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to travel to various work locations in a timely and efficient manner
  • The candidates should be capable of multi-tasking, learning, and working under pressure and capable of working in all weather conditions
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to perform manual and computerized mathematical calculations in an engineering environment

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have knowledge of Toronto water applications such as Aclara, WMACS, Hansen, Laserfiche, iView Toronto Water Asset Geodatabase (TWAG) and knowledge of environmental monitoring theories, methods, and practices and understand groundwater and industrial wastewater generation
  • The candidates should be familiar with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook and possess knowledge of municipal installation specifications and standards
  • The candidates should have experience preparing data files, maps, and summaries, and generating graphical summaries and interpret engineering plans, documents, and technical drawings
  • The candidates should have practical or theoretical experience working with Water Distribution or Wastewater Collection Networks and basic analytical skills with the ability to perform manual and computerized mathematical calculations in an engineering environment
  • The candidates should have excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in project teams and communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • The candidates should have knowledge in the sampling of groundwater, surface water, industrial, commercial, and institutional areas and familiar with Toronto Municipal Code Chapter 681 and Sewers
  • The candidates should be proficient in interpreting engineering drawings and documents plans and profiles, sewer drawings and specifications and knowledge in civil or municipal engineering, design, and construction of water meters, water mains, and storm water metering
  • The candidates should possess familiarity with relevant regulations, statutes, standards, and practices such as the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Ministry of Environment Acts
  • The candidates should be able to work effectively with consultants, contractors, colleagues, and other City employees at all levels, as well as members of the public and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing at all organizational levels

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to research, analyze, and report on water meter specifications and standards for residential, multi-unit residential, and Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional (ICI) sectors
  • The candidates should be able to update water meter records in the Water Billing System (WMACS)
  • The candidates should be able to enter, maintain, and update tracking of Aclara programming software and programming operations
  • The candidates should be able to work with technical data and transcripts to relay information to both internal and external customers
  • The candidates should be able to review technician commentary and work performed for completed and open service calls attended by a technician
  • The candidates should be able to perform off-reads and diagnose damaged meters to prepare for warranty and assemble water meters according to size and change register heads for different types of meters in accordance with technical standards
  • The candidates should be able to search, evaluate, and analyze records, notes, and plans in response to inquiries and project, maintain, and update tracking of as-built or record drawings and water meters
  • The candidates should be able to extract, summarize, and analyze water billing data and information and check peers’ completed work for data accuracy
